Not being a type designer and not knowing anyone from SOTA, I came to Rochester with a little aprehension, but my fears were quickly laid to rest by all of the friendly people there. Most session topics and speakers were excellent--a lot of thought must have gone into getting the right combinations of subject matter and people. And the reliance on volunteers made me, at least, feel much more a part of the event than is usual at larger, more "professional" conferences. Finally, the cool printed programs were a real help with their maps, restaurant descriptions, etc."
